Spirosmart is a new application that uses the freely available android SDK for access to all sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and other data. It can be used to create applications for GPS navigation, object detection and tracking in real time, and much more! The app is not currently availble on the play store because it needs time to adjust to the new GDPR regulations that came into place May 25th. There will be a public release later this summer. However you can sign up for notification when it goes live here: https://www.spirosmartapp. com/spirosmart_app_notifications.phpBy using the open source android SDK for sensor access, Spirosmart enables the creation of new ideas to detect objects in real time. In this example video, a user can see his or her arm movements in real time on screen with an object detection algorithm activated. A camera also shows the real world. Spirosmart can also be used to create an application for GPS navigation. In this example video, a user can see how Spirosmart tracks his car location on the map. The red dot shows the current location, and the green line shows the route that is being followed. Spirosmart’s main purpose is to create an open source project that all developers can use. They are currently working on creating a larger community of developers who are excited about using their app to create new ideas for tracking objects or simply helping people with disabilities or injuries regain more freedom in their daily lives. The app can be used on any android phone running an android 4.0.3 and higher. It is intended for people with special needs and disabilities and has been tested and refined by a certified therapy team who do therapy with people who have disabilities such as ALS, Parkinson's disease, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Spinal Cord injury, Chronic pain for over 19 years. This project was created by the student of Professor George Chatzimichali of the Computer Science Department at National Technical University of Athens in collaboration with several other departments in IST for Science and Technology (INTEFLUX) at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). This project was supported by the ‘Academic Excellence Program’ of the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). It has also received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 646002.
