Introduction to illustration software for Bengali language, and how it can help with learning and producing layouts and texts in this language. Bengali is a language spoken by almost 235 million speakers, mainly in Bangladesh and India. It appears as an official state language of India, the second most-spoken mother tongue in the world after Mandarin Chinese. It also has its own script (Bengali) as well as a number of dialects (including Sylheti). Stm is a free open-source drawing program that provides support for these scripts to those who need it. The Bengali language itself has a long history, dating back to the 8th century. It is in the Indo-Aryan family of languages. The writing system used in its earlier years was called “Ashokan Brahmi”, which is an abugida. Later, when this script deteriorated, the Bengali people created another one called “Brahmic pen” in contrast to Devanagari script for Sanskrit language or “xuanzhuang” for Chinese. This second script is called the Bengali alphabet (also known as "Bangla"). The information that follows was taken from the subsection in Wikipedia, Wikipedia:Bengali script. Characters are in the Bengali alphabet. Articles about Stm in newspapers about Kolkata, Bangladesh or India.
