For years, the ultimate goal for any cybercriminal was to hack into a bank. The idea of accessing cash and credit card information was alluring, but the actual steps required were difficult and time-consuming. Thanks to the rapid advancement in computing power, it’s now possible (and easier than ever) for anyone to download a hacked version of Microsoft Office or Adobe Acrobat Reader within minutes – including ransomware – and launch their attacks from home. These sophisticated programs can be downloaded to your computer with just one click — all you need is an internet connection and a device that can run them (i.e., laptop or desktop computer). This is what makes some attacks so scary. A password reset email can be sent via the infected computer’s default email client, but some malicious software can be installed on tampered-with machines without the owner’s knowledge. This is where ransomware comes in. Once installed on a device, ransomware will encrypt all connected files and demand money to decrypt them. The connection between ransomware and cybercrime is obvious: Ransomware acts as a highly effective method for cybercriminals to extort funds from unaware victims, stealing thousands of dollars each month. Recently, security experts worked hard to fight back against the tide of online crime. Banks are now using ingenious methods to avoid getting hacked, attacks are being stopped before they even begin, and hundreds of thousands of cybercriminals are being arrested every year. So what about ransomware? Is there any way to fight against it? Sadly, up until now, the answer was no. But that all changed in June 2016 when a team of security experts developed a tool so powerful that many people call it the “Uncrackable Ransomware”. The program is called BruteForcer, and it’s an online free program that lets you decrypt encrypted files without paying cybercriminals any money. Fair warning: This tool only works with specific ransomware strains (for now). But don’t let that scare you off. BruteForcer is easy to use and incredibly effective. The concept behind this new decryption tool is actually simple: The program runs on a virtual machine and uses an array of built-in tools to manipulate encrypted files and figure out the password. By using various applications, scripts, and brute force attacks – BruteForcer can break through an encrypted file’s password with ease. All you have to do is upload your encrypted file (or files) into BruteForcer’s interface, choose the ransomware strain that infected your device, then click “Decrypt”. It really is that simple. BruteForcer is open source, which means that it’s free to use. If you’d like to read more about how the tool was built, you can do so on Github (https://github.com/graysky/BruteForce-Password-Cracker). It’s easy to use and really effective at what it does. To give you an idea of what BruteForcer can do, here’s a list of some of the most impressive ransomware strains (So now you know why it's called "Uncrackable Ransomware!"): CryptoMix – Alpha Crypt, CryptXXX, CrypDerby, CryptoWall 3.0 / 4. cfa1e77820
